I am fishing out of Haulover in N. Miami Beach this afternoon with Karen Frick and her father Earnhart which are visiting from Germany. The Mullet schools are pushing thru the inlet and it didn't take long and Karen had a 60 lb Tarpon hooked up for 1 jump. She had never sight casted to a fish before and was excited about it. We caught some Trout and Cuda's and ended the trip with a 31 inch Snook.

I am with Joe his wife Debbie and his kids Jacob and Joanna today at Flamingo. The most important thing today was to keep those rods bent and we did. They caught plenty of Trout up to 3 lbs., Jacks to 10 lbs. Ladyfish and Snappers. We also fished some Tripletails in the open water which Joe loved. We ended the day with some Shark fishing.

I am at Flamingo today with Dr. Irwin Becker and his friend Matt from Wyoming who was a pretty good fly caster. I have been fishing with Irwin for a long time and I always try to show him some thing he hasn't seen, it is tough since he has been fishing Flamingo since the 60's. we started out close found some Tarpon but they move out before we got a shot at them. I kept my eye on a serious storm which was coming from the east and building around us. My choices were run back to the marina or run west, the direction the storm was moving. We started to run west when I noticed a really big push of water, I slowed and watched a giant school of big Redfish bust baits and move our way. They came within 30 feet of us. The wind was easily mid 30's and gusting as the storm was only a mile away, Irwin cast a top water plug but the school moved quickly still blowing mullet out of the water. It was nasty but I spotted another group and they made cast but it was tough with the wind. It was time to go, we out ran the storm which followed us all day. We got up the coast and fished Tarpon which were shut down for the most part. We ended up in Whitewater Bay on a Goliath Grouper spot, Matt was first. I pitch a small Jack into the spot to show him where I wanted it. The rod doubled over and Matt was in a tug of war, he loved it. The fish got him way back in the sticks and broke him off on a spinning rod, that's when I asked do you really want to catch him. I opened my rod locker and pulled out the "Grouper rod" Matt smile and said that's more like it, he caught the next one although it wasn't as big as the first. Irwin was next he got slammed and put the heat to the giant Grouper, I am not kidding his fish almost pulled him in until I grabbed on to him. He battle for a while and finally broke off. Irwin picked up his bait caster and Caught a smaller one on a Gulp Shrimp. We ended the day with a flurry of good fish Trout, Snappers, Ladyfish and a bunch of Snook.
It was windy for 2 or 3 months and now its been raining everyday for 2 weeks. When we get out early we miss the rain we get slick conditions which allows us to see fish whether it be Tarpon, Bonefish, Permit, Redfish or Snook. If your planing a trip get out @ 630 am early or after the showers which cools the water. The rain has helped down in the backcountry at Flamingo. The water is tanic stained and the Snook are there, just a couple weeks ago is was crystal clear and the Snook were hard to find back there.

I went over to the west coast today to pre fish for a tournament that's this weekend. We were looking for Redfish and went to some new spots and then hit our usual spot. It wasn't a good bite we had a handful of Snook but the full moons effect was evident, we were using big Threadfin Herring and only managed of few fish.

I am fishing with Al, Alonso and Steve toady, I launched out of Islamorada today doing a group trip with Capt. Benny Blanco. I was all set to fish ocean side for Tarpon/Permit/Bonefish but the guys wanted to fish the back country of Flamingo. We started off quickly with a couple big Trout while fishing a giant Mullet mud, there was some big fish busting in it but we couldn't get them to hit.
We worked hard and they caught fish all on artificial, Snappers, Ladyfish, Trout, Jacks but it was tough. Alonso had a big Jack and Al's rod doubled over while working lures in some moving water but he just wasn't fast enough. We ended up the day by catching some big Cuda's on the way back to Islamorada, every cast for an hour was almost a hook up. I am glad this full moon is over it was tougher than usual.

I am fishing out of Everglades City today with Tom, Frank, Frank and John. I am here because I am fishing a tournament the following day. The bite was slow this morning, we landed a few Snook on gold spoons, Mackerel, Jacks and Ladyfish. The key was to find live bait, we couldn't and I didn't want to waste the 6 hr whole trip looking for it.

Today I am with buddies Paul and Bruce fishing the Backwater Series Redfish Dual held out of Caloosa marina in Goodland. We started the morning on a couple spots that produce Redfish for me we only had 1 bite which got Paul into the trees. We tried to get it out but eventually it it broke off. I thought that was a sign they were here so we stuck it out. No more Reds the whole day but we did catch a bunch of Snook. The bite was off and it showed at the weigh ins, plenty of teams did not weigh a fish.

I am fishing Flamingo today with Lee, Larry and Ron today at Flamingo. I started out on the coast and it didn't take long, the Snook are there and cooperating. This was a 2 boat trip, as the second boat pulled up to us we released 5 Snook as they we watched. They moved on and we caught Snook for the next 2 hours, well over 40 Snook up to 9 lbs. I moved to another spot and there were more Snook but they started catching Trout, they caught over a hundred Trout up to 3 lbs. We cast an assortment of lures Gulps, Rapalas, and gold spoons and they all caught their share. It was getting hot so I said lets make a run and look for Tripletails, it didn't take long and I spotted a big one. I slowed down and as I was looking for the Tripletail, I spotted a school of Permit. I told the guys to cast right at them, treating them like a Jack. The followed the Twitchin Rap but turn off at the boat. The Tripletail popped up but was moving very fast they are tough to catch like that. We pulled up to a marker caught a few Jacks and Blue runners which I put out and got eaten by a Cobia. Due to circumstances beyond my control, no Cobia! We ended up the day on some "laid up" Tarpon, Larry hooked a nice 50 lb. fish and Lee had a smaller one. Ron had a couple shots a 2 really big laid up Tarpon but both spooked . we ended up the day in a mullet mud with more Trout and big Ladyfish.

I am part of a 4 boat trip today, I have John and his wife Barbara aboard with me and we are at Flamingo. We started out on the coast looking for Snook, I had John throwing a spoon and I was casting a "Twitch n Rap" and handing the rod to Barbara. We caught 20 Snook or so and then got into the Trout, Jack, Snappers and Ladyfish and caught another 25 fish. It was brutally hot and Barbara was fried from the sun so we headed in.

I am with Jacob and his son George today, the winds were steady and out of the west but I still ran to the coast. We got into a couple decent bites along the way, The Snook were on a point and Jacob really whacked them on a Gulp Shrimp. George and I watched as Tarpon banged up some small baits and he tried to make the difficult cast. We finally moved on ran to the beaches where we caught a bunch more Snook. The winds made it tough so I ran back around Snake bite because the winds were blocked a little bit. We hit a couple spots and finally found some Redfish mudding up on the flats, George was first and caught one on a "Twitch n Rap" and then for the next hour we caught Redfish after Redfish using Gulps, paddle tails and "Twitch n Raps". We called it and they were still biting but it has been steamy and hot with temps @98 degrees today. George said this was exactly the fathers day gift he had in mind for his dad, Im glad it worked out!

I am at Flamingo with my son and his friends Albert and Jimmy today, we got out early to jump on a school of Reds I have been on. The bite was quick, they caught 6 or 7 Reds and a big Snook. A full blown storm moved in and the wind kicked up to 30 mph, we moved to a protected shore line. We worked hard and hooked several Tarpon but the bite was slow. I decide to try one other spot where we jumped a Tarpon and caught another Snook, between the winds and the slow bite we called it a day.

I am with Robert, Joe and Lenny today at Flamingo and as soon as we got outside the marina we got we. I never saw it coming but made I it to the first spot and waited for it to stop. The same school of Redfish I had been on all week was waking up as we approached the area. Robert and Joe both hooked up and their drags were screaming and they both looked up at me with this stunned look, both fish were gone! We worked around and it was slow but we caught a lot of Jacks, everything else was slow. I went to a rock pile and we caught a bunch of Snappers and a few Red Groupers before ending the day.
