| Incredible Bite Going On
2-9-04 The past 2 weeks there has been some pretty good Tarpon fishing going on from Haulover inlet to Govt.cut. Scott and Bob experienced the beginning of the Shrimp run hooking only one Tarpon and 1 Snook. Bob also caught a real 4lb (on the boga grip) Trout over by Julia Tuttle earlier in the day. Thats a great Trout for North Biscayne Bay on a blue bird day.
2-10-04- The next evening Fred and Sean of Winthrop tool were 6 for 9 with 2 over 80lbs.The Shrimp run was in full swing, they were popping everywhere. Fred and Sean were casting D.O.A. glow Shrimp,it didn't take long . The Tarpon responded quickly we were 5 for 5 at one point. It's been like that now for the last10 days.
0212-04 Thursday night, I went fishing. There were several other boats from the Miami sportfishing club out as well and I got my shot at a Tarpon. I have watched clients hook em for a week straight and I wanted one for me, well sometimes you get what you ask for. we caught a nice fish of 120lbs. The other guys from the club had the same kind of evening, there were multiple boat hook ups all night long.
021504 Fished Flamingo with Dave and John from Minnesota in some really bad weather, it rained as hard as ive seen it in a while. My anglers didnt seem to mind because it was warmer that it was at home. We ended up the day with Redfish, Trout and Ladyfish losing a big Snook right next to the boat on the last cast of the day. Those guys stuck it out in the rain all day. As soon as we reached the dock the sun came out, dont that figure.
2-16-04 Jim Hide and his buddy Jim Nickey, all the Jim 's we needed in this boat. I was worried about finding Shrimp because it was Presidents day, so I ended up with a couple extra crabs in case. The Tarpon bite started quickly, the first fish ate the crab and was 50 yards away before we could get the engine started, 3 jumps and threw the hook. We set up again and joked a litlle about about the last fish, we were on again this time it was a good 60 lb Tarpon. Jim Nickey was up again this time we stayed on him and got the fish boatside for pictures only both cameras had died. At 720pm it was Jim Hides turn the rod started peeling line, a lot of line, then the Tarpon changed his angle and started running down the beach away from us. This Tarpon never came up to jump letting me know he was big. Jim Hide got him to the boat for a official release in 30 minutes, but the official landing time was 850pm. This was a great Tarpon he would not give up for pictures, now that the camera was working.
02-20-04- Today's Tarpon fishing contradicts eveything I have said above. The Tarpon didnt bite until after 9 pm. Today I had 2 trips, the morning trip with Don, Frank and Harold started out with Mackeral on the beaches. Harold hooked something that didnt want to come up, after a short struggle the fish rocked himself. We waited him out and caught the 23 inch Red Grouper Harold seemed to have The skill for catching grouper he caught 3. The Snappers we endless but no Tarpon. The wind kicked so we went inside the Bay and did some Trout fishing. Frank had the hot hand and caught 6 or 7 nice trout while Harold wasn't far behind. Don Was snake bit and couldn't catch one. There was actually one shrimp left in the livewell. Don finally caught one on that shrimp. Between the Trout and the Barracudas the guys were tired. The big trout was 3 pounds, a very nice.
This evening trip was more of the same, The Tarpon didnt want to play. My customer Jack called it at 830pm, while putting the boat on the trailer my phone rang and a buddy called. and let me know the bite was on. I fished for 13 hours and missed the bite by 20 minutes. Thats just Tarpon fishing.
They Tarpon are here in Miami and will be here for a couple more months, they are also downat Flamingo in Whitewater Bay Select another page || Go to Home Page
