Report for the 1st week in May.

Tarpon Are Thick

This week I fished Tarpon from the Gulf of Mexico beaches to the Islands right out front of Flamingo Marina. The Fish show themselves when it hot, still and windless. They have been rolling on the flats and channel edges. The fish have ate flies knocked our plugs into the air and have eaten both Pinfish and Mullet without a problem.

On Sunday May 5, I guided long time friend and my personal fly tyier Johm Jordan in the JCC Backcountry Grand Tournament. Lines were in at 7.00 a.m., we in the Tarpon pretty thick for the next 4 hours.

Jonh hooked and lost 8 or 9 on fly he was very frustrated at this point. Not to make excuses but we were fishing in some incredibly thick surface grass making it hard to set up, this was disappointing but thankfully everyone else had similar experiences. We ended up in third place taking home the largest Redfish award 28inches. John is an icredible fly caster and tyier, My thanks for letting me guide him.

Giant Tarpon are in give me a call. Let catch a backcountry slam.
just go fishin,
Capt Jimbo
