The fishing business is generally slow during Aug-Sept. that doesn't mean the fishing is. I bought a little place in Key Largo 9 years ago, I get to fish with friends and family somewhere beside Flamingo and Biscayne Bay. Don’t get me wrong I love Flamingo but it’s nice to a short walk out to your boat. I have offered trips from Key Largo for the last few years also.

Flamingo

The last couple months the air and water temps have been in the 90’s. We have been getting some rain everyday which cools the water down to mid 80’s. The fish really like this and show up to places they haven’t been in a while.

i had been fishing Flamingo for last few weeks getting ready for a couple tournaments. This past weekend Sept 25-27 I fished the Take Stock in Children in Key Largo. I fished wish my son James and friend Mike. This tournament starts after Captains meeting and goes until Sunday 4pm.

On Friday before the Capt.’s meeting we played around and fished the Mullet run It was plenty of fun we caught a few nice Snook, 10 -15Lb Jacks, Jumped Tarpon.

We didn’t fish Fri night but got an early start. We left Key Largo @ 5 am with a giant Full Moon shining. As usual a cold front came thru overnight and increased the wind 15-20 mph. The Skeeter SX241 ran right thru the wind, and nobody got wet. We made our first few stops with no luck, and it was time to go the rest of the way to Flamingo. We had 1 more stop and we caught a handful of Trout up to 20 inches.

We were chasing the tide which had already dropped because of the N. wind. My snook spot had at least one there but came unhooked. The spot was full of 8lb Jacks and more Trout. It was time to make a long run and catch the time coming in only the N wind was slowing it. I finally got into a spot that I was counting on and we didn’t get a bite! We tried a few others and same result. it was time to figure out a new backup plan.

It was time to run again; I actually went to a spot which has been good for a while. James was throwing a topwater and Mike his favorite Pink NLBN paddle tail. All of a sudden, we were on a Redfish bite. The only problem was they were all the same size, 17” s. It lasted an hour and with a few 25 “Snook mixes in. The wind clocked around to the NW and the bite really stopped. We stayed out late and it didn’t get better. Mike had an idea, since we are friends with Angelo who is the manager at Flamingo Marina lets rent a houseboat. It worked out no running back 40 and then running back 40 miles again.

We woke up in Flamingo Marina and were ready to go. I decided go back to the Redfish spot. Sunday was much better, No Redfish but a bunch of Snook and Trout. We had a couple bites that we lost, and they might have helped our cause. We covered allot of areas and got a bunch Snook but never into the boat. We had several get eaten by some really big Sharks. James says why don't we try for a bigger Trout. We did and he upgraded to 21 inches which would get him into 3rd place Trout at awards ceremony. They call this the Iron Man tournament for a reason, it beats you up.

The mullet run is full on and along Miami Beach and it will be allot of fun the next couple weeks, I will also be fishing the Mutton Snappers In South Biscayne Bay. Flamingo is always in the mix of spots. This time of year, we have allot of choices.

Caught Lookin Charters is a family friendly charter, kids are welcome.
