S. Florida fishing got cold!!!

I always like to talk about how hot the fishing is, for a change it has been COLD! February is generally the coldest month, and Mother Nature showed us who is boss. The air temps got down into the lows 30’s which in turn dropped water temps. There were water temp readings as low as 43 degrees in Fl. Bay. I don’t blame people for backing out of trips, it’s just not why they come to Miami /Keys.

The days I fished were really busy on the water but produced some fair to excellent days. The one thing every trip had was anticipation that we were going to catch fish until we finally did.

I’m with Ethan and Dean today at Flamingo, the place is packed. I decided to fish the backcountry, and it really worked out for us. We started out with a couple nice Snook. From there we bounced around catching a little of everything. They caught a everything but Tarpon today .

This past weekend I had the best fishing day of the 26 season. I had 3 good anglers and fish that were cooperating all day. I had light Biscayne Rods rigged up with assorted NLBN 3-inch paddle tails. It didn’t take long; Craig had a bent rod and a nice Snook. He had the hot hand with 3 or 4 Snook before the other guys hooked one. There was a nice school of Snook and Craig, Tim and Jay were catching them. There were also Redfish, Trout, Jacks and ladyfish being caught.

We headed out west and got into a good Tarpon bite we were 0-4. Craig had 2 giants eat the NLBN Greenback, unfortunately they were hot fish and threw thew jig. We were live baiting off the back and had 2 others Tarpon eat live bait. The bite slowed as wind picked up and we changed it up. We fished a boundary marker and caught Black Drum, Sheepshead, Trout and More Jacks. The tide was coming in all day; we ended up in Snake Bite at the end of the day. Craig Got another nice Snook and then Tim followed up with one. We caught some Trout, Jacks and of course Catfish. It was late and we headed in after a fantastic day with really good guys.
