I have been fishing all over South Florida in the last month. Tarpon, Redfish, Snook, Trout, Bass, Peacock Bass Tuna and Mahi Mahi’s. I have fished with clients and friends and family. I have fished Everglades City a few Days, Holiday Park, Flamingo a few days and Key Largo offshore and Backcountry. It’s fun and not getting boring anywhere. I have a couple guys that caught their first Snook, Redfish as well as jumping their first Tarpon.
I was lucky enough this past weekend to hook and get the biggest Mahi I have ever seen to the gaff. We spotted a giant Mahi come in a try to eat a hooked Almaco Jack that my son hooked. The Monster Mahi knocked it off the lure. I had a Almaco laying on the deck. I picked up a Almaco we had just caught. I rigged the 1 1/2 lb. Almaco and a heavy Biscaye Rod with Penn Authoruty and 50 lb. braid. and put it on the forehead of this monster. He ate land it was the coolest bite I have ever seen .This big Bull jumped a bunch and I finally got him next to boat a hanful of times. My son was ready with a gaff but not ready for the fight after gaffing. The monster almost pulled hm over the side and Mike grabbed the gaff trying to help. The fish pulled off the gaff and ran under the boat nicking the line on something and he was gone. It was the best 40 minutes I had in a long time. This fish estimated at 6 ft, and 50 Lbs. I wasn’t upset it was the coolest fish ever. and “MY MAHI OF A LIFETIME”
